The Summer Joint Meeting of ARLIS DC-MD-VA and the Visual Resources Association (VRA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter took place on Friday, July 9th at the Corcoran Gallery of Art / College of Art + Design. Mario Ascencio, Library Director and our gracious host, led a tour of the college’s studios and classrooms. After our tour, we landed in the library where Mario and Jackie Protka, Digital Assets and Media Librarian, shared their insights into how the Corcoran Library serves the school and museum, as we viewed a sampling of the library’s collection of artists’ books.

Anne Simmons with a Muybridge-inspired installation by Mitchell Chan & Brad Hindson at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Photo by Sarah Osborne Bender)

After our respective business meetings, both chapters rejoined for a tour of Helios: Eadweard Muybridge in a Time of Change, led by curator Philip Brookman.

Mario generously opened his home to us for a post-tour reception, where ARLIS and VRA folks had an opportunity to mingle and relax.

Thanks to Mario and all of the staff at the Corcoran for the hard work that went into making this a fun and informative day!

Meeting minutes will be posted to the website shortly.
