Baltimore Magazine names Locus Best Art Publication in their August 2008 Best of Baltimore issue.
“Locus, the local journal/exhibition space/magazine, exudes a sort of restless creativity that makes each issue surprising and satisfying. Smartly edited and beautifully designed, it showcases art infused with both passion and humanity. Locus doesn’t strive to be fashionable, trendy, or cool—just good.”

Read It
By John Lewis
“When this local arts magazine launched two years ago, I was impressed by the curatorial skill and overall thoughtfulness it exhibited. I didn’t want to get too attached though, because this sort of non-commercial publication often has a life span shorter than your average housefly. But Locus not only survives, it thrives, as this issue makes clear. As in previous installments, the photography is particularly strong in #4, which has a “Vernacular” theme. Andrew Laumann, an Essex native, shows compositional flair in his shots, D.B. Stovall channels William Eggleston, and Fred Scharmen finds beauty in urban rubble and decay. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself lingering over Seth Adelsberger’s sprawling and vibrant “Psychoscapes” paintings and puzzling over the “Monkey Rider” trading card inside the back cover. Mine shows Hothead the monkey riding a dog.” (Baltimore Magazine, May 2008)

Thank you to everyone for another amazing party! The turnout was great, the performances were amazing, and I hope that everyone had a great time-we did! Thanks to The Offering, Anup Kishore Pradhan, Baby Venom, and The Up Set who seriously ruled the stage and to all of the participating artists and writers for issue 4: Vernacular. And a big shout to Sarah Williams and Guy of Metro Gallery. The event was a huge success– meaning that there will be an issue 5! As long as the community supports us in this way, we will continue to do what we can for the art community.
Thanks again, we love you.
p.s- Pictures from the event will be posted very soon. And Issue 4 will be made available for purchase through our website and at Atomic Pop in Hampden within the next few days. If you haven’t had a chance to see the exhibition (or you’d like to see it again, without so many people in the way) it will remain up at Metro Gallery through March 22 during their normal gallery hours (Monday-Wednesday 2pm-7pm; Thursday-Friday 4pm-8pm).
